Working as a powertrain manufacturing engineer at Ford’s Automatic Transmission Operations is a perfect fit for Molli Andor, who has always had a penchant for solving puzzles.
“You’re really optimizing the best way to assemble an engine, which is like putting an intricate puzzle together,” said Molli. “The program I’m working on right now is a retool, where we go into an existing assembly line and change out stations while still running current production. So we have to figure out the best way to get the engine assembled from an ergonomics, cycle time, jobs per hour, safety and quality perspective.”
Molli is comfortable in a plant environment. She used to tinker around in her father’s welding and fabrication shop when she was a kid.
“It drove me to take a drafting class in high school and then CAD classes later on,” she said. “That’s what motivated me to look into engineering as a career.”

Molli received her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and her master’s in engineering management. She joined the company through the Ford College Graduate program in 2015 and was placed within her home department of Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering in 2018.

Molli said she was drawn to Ford because of the culture.
“I looked at what Ford is involved in, and it’s not just a car company,” she said. “Ford is really involved in the community with programs like Thirty Under 30.”
Molli was selected to be a member of the 2018 class of Thirty Under 30, a philanthropic initiative designed to connect employees under the age of 30 with nonprofit organizations to come up with innovative ways to engage new generations of donors and volunteers. She is also active with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
“Ford has a really strong group of employees who are members of SWE,” she said. “We go on recruiting trips and set up STEM outreach for local events as well. It’s really cool to be able to have the opportunity to network with all these other women.”
Molli grew up in Northern Michigan. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling and sightseeing.
